The Heart of Acupuncture

February sits at an interesting crossroads. Winter is still very present in our area—cold, dark, inward—but the heart system is beginning to stir as we move closer to spring. This makes February a powerful month to support circulation, emotional balance and warmth.

In acupuncture, balance is governed by the heart, supported by the kidneys, and expressed through healthy circulation of Qi and blood. When winter cold lingers too long, it can block that flow—leading to fatigue, low mood, poor sleep, cold hands and feet, or feeling emotionally “shut down.”

When Kidney energy is depleted by cold, stress or lack of rest, the heart may feel ungrounded, showing up as restless sleep, vivid dreams, anxiety, emotional sensitivity, feeling disconnected or irritable, cold hands, palpitations, tension and more. Sound familiar?

February acupuncture often focuses on warming kidney Yang while calming and nourishing the heart—a combination that supports both physical vitality and emotional resilience.

Your DIY 5-Minute Daily Reset

 In the evening:

  1. Apply steady pressure to Heart 7 on both wrists for 60 seconds each

  2. Massage Kidney 3 in slow circles for 1-2 minutes per side

  3. Finish with gentle pressure on Ren 4, breathing deeply for 1 minute

This combination helps warm the body, calm the mind, support deep and ease emotional tension.

February isn’t the time to force productivity or emotional intensity. This month is about gentle movement of Qi, not extremes. Supporting your heart system now helps set the tone for spring.

Your heart deserves support this season. 🩷
